Robert D. Laurie

Robert D. Laurie is a partner in the firm's Hartford, Connecticut office. He concentrates his practice on complex civil and commercial litigation including insurance coverage determinations, extra-contractual insurance litigation, reinsurance dispute resolution, construction defect/architects and engineer liability disputes and other general matters arising in the commercial context. 

 

Robert is an experienced trial lawyer who has successfully presented cases in various state and federal courts (jury and courtside).  Robert has also represented clients in domestic and international arbitration and mediation proceedings arising out of re/insurance transactions.  Robert currently serves as regional counsel to a large domestic insurance company for extra-contractual/bad faith litigation.

In addition to litigation, Robert has experience drafting reinsurance contracts, commutation and settlement agreements and assisting clients in the review and analysis of reinsurance contracts.  Robert also has advised clients on various risk management issues.

Robert is currently serving a two-year term as Secretary for the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association.

Civic Activities

Robert currently sits on the Board of Directors of The Bridge Family Center, a non-profit organization that provides community-based programs, residential services, youth services, child-parent support, mental health counseling and art and recreational programs for children and families in Connecticut.
