Laura J. Irk focuses her practice on complex insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes. She has represented insurers, cedents, and reinsurers in federal and state courts throughout the United States, including Illinois, Louisiana, and New York.
Laura regularly counsels clients on insurance coverage policies and potential defenses relating to asbestos and environmental contamination matters. She also represents insurers in coverage disputes involving multimillion-dollar first-party property claims.
In addition, Laura has extensive experience negotiating and drafting settlement agreements, and she routinely handles arbitration and litigation disputes regarding facultative and treaty reinsurance contracts. These matters include a wide range of issues, including follow the fortunes, follow the settlements, duty of utmost good faith, and misrepresentation. Laura earned her J.D. from the Valparaiso University School of Law, and following graduation, she was a law clerk to the Hon. Stuart E. Palmer in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
