William Edwins focuses his practice on complex insurance coverage analysis and dispute resolution. He has extensive experience representing national and international insurance companies, as well as Lloyd’s of London brokers and syndicates, in matters involving a broad range of coverage issues and policy types.
William has handled matters from initial claim through trial in state and federal courts, with a track record of obtaining successful results through litigation as well as through strategic settlement, mediation, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. A small sampling of his experience includes serving as the point attorney on a multimillion-dollar coverage matter for a major international insurer and defending a Lloyd’s syndicate in the World Trade Center trial in federal court.
He frequently provides liability and coverage advice, prepares coverage opinions and correspondence, engages in motion practice, and drafts policy language with respect to various types of insurance policies and claims. The broad range of his experience includes matters involving professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, commercial auto and motor cargo claims, marine claims, property damage, and general liability. He has handled matters involving complex issues related to technology, abuse and molestation, ransom and kidnapping, pharmaceuticals, high-end collector car claims, and excess and umbrella coverage.
While pursuing his law degree, William was a law clerk at the New York Stock Exchange’s Office of the General Counsel, where he acted as a liaison between the office and the SEC, Federal Reserve, and other federal agencies. During college, he served as an assistant law clerk for Judge Joanna Seybert in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and a legislative intern for the New York State Assembly.
