Albert J. D’Aquino, Chair of Goldberg Segalla’s General Liability Practice Group, was featured in the Buffalo Law Journal’s “Five Questions” column, where he discussed the unique alternative dispute resolution (ADR) program in New York State.
“There are two full-time, dedicated mediators, so in the state court system, what is great is that we can ask a judge at any time during the case to refer us to the ADR division to take a stab at getting the case settled. Most judges will do it,” Al told the Buffalo Law Journal. “The good thing is that it doesn’t cost the client anything, as private mediation does, and they’ll have you back for repeated sessions until you get the case settled or until it appears to them that you’re not going to get it settled because the sides are too far apart. There’s not a program that exists in all counties and judicial districts in the state like it does here.”
