Joseph M. Hanna Named Power 100 Business Leaders of Color by Buffalo Business First

For the second consecutive year, Buffalo Business First has recognized Goldberg Segalla attorney Joseph M. Hanna in the Power 100 Business Leaders of Color list. Buffalo Business First defines honorees as leaders of Western New York companies and organizations, as trusted board members, and as inspirational examples for the next generation.

Joe is the founder and chair of the firm’s Diversity Task Force, is the firm’s hiring partner, and sits on the firm’s management committee.  He also chairs the firm’s Retail and Hospitality and Sports and Entertainment Law groups. In addition to his work with Goldberg Segalla’s Diversity Task Force, Joe has undertaken various diversity-related roles within DRI and the American Bar Association (ABA). He served multiple years as the co-chair of the Young Lawyer Leadership Program, as the chair of the Minority Trial Lawyer Committee, and as the editor-in-chief of Minority Trial Lawyer.

In 2020, Joe received the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Awareness) Award from Buffalo Business First. This award is given to individuals and organizations who champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace and surrounding communities. Last year, Joe was honored with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest civil volunteerism award presented by the president of the United States for his work with his nonprofit organization, Bunkers in Baghdad. Joe has served in multiple leadership roles in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and was recognized with the organization’s highest honor, the Rick Palmore Alumni Award. Joe currently chairs the New York chapter of the LCLD Success in Law School Mentoring Program. He has received accolades that include the Minority Corporate Counsel Association George B. Vashon Innovator Award, the MCCA Diversity and the Bar Rainmakers Award, and the University at Buffalo George W. Thorn Award.

In 2022, Joe was named a Northeast Trailblazer by The American Lawyer and is identified as an “agent of change who has made significant marks on practice, policy, and technological advancements in his area of legal practice.” Additionally, he received the 2022 New York Law Journal Distinguished Leader Award, an honor that recognizes attorneys in leadership roles who achieved impressive results in the past year while demonstrating clear leadership skills leading to positive outcomes.

Joseph M. As National Monitoring Counsel for a number of retail clients, he monitors litigation in jurisdictions throughout the country and works with outside counsel to make sure the retailers’ needs are being met.
