As the latest milestone in a stellar career, Thomas F. Segalla, a founding partner of Goldberg Segalla and Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Insurance Services Practice Group, has been selected to receive the James S. Conway Award from the Defense Association of New York (DANY). The annual honor recognizes an attorney who significantly furthers and develops the defense bar through strategic and vigorous defense of clients in litigation. A nationally recognized authority on insurance law and bad faith, Tom is co-author of the seminal insurance law treatise Couch on Insurance 3d. He will receive the award on April 24 at DANY’s Pinckney Awards Dinner.

“I’m grateful to the leadership of the Defense Association of New York for selecting me for this honor,” Tom said. “As attorneys, our goals should always include providing the best possible representation and counsel to our clients. It’s rewarding to be recognized by my peers as having done that.”

This award from DANY follows closely on the heels of recognition Tom received from the Defense Research Institute (DRI), last fall. At that time, DRI established the Tom Segalla Chair of the Law Institute, in his honor. The new chair, a position that will be held by future chairpersons of DRI’s Law Institute, recognizes his longtime commitment to DRI and a generous gift by Tom and his wife Mary Lou to benefit the organization. Additionally, DRI established in Tom’s honor an Excellence in Education Award to acknowledge his passion for raising the standards of excellence and ethics in the legal profession.
